Twisted Tower is a single-player FPS / immersive-sim horror climb from Atmos Games, published by 3D Realms (Steam app 1575990, released August 18, 2026). This Twisted Tower beginner guide teaches the loop you repeat across five themed levels — fight corrupted carnival mascots, bank Tickets, upgrade toy weapons, and leave doors marked for later — before you push past the opening Hotel. You climb as the tower's player character — early coverage says Tiny Martin, some post-launch writeups say Vincent; treat the in-game UI string as TBA until captured — pulled into Mr Twister's abandoned 1950s carnival tower to find Charlotte. The first session is not a tutorial checklist — it is a short immersive-sim climb that teaches movement, combat, and Ticket sinks in the Hotel before the Mermaid Palace Waterpark opens.
There is no open hub farm. Each of the five levels is a self-contained carnival floor with its own combat density, puzzle language, and boss check. Your first climb should prioritize forward progress over 100% — Adventure Plus (NG+) reopens taped and X-marked paths after you reach the top once.
Mr Twister monologues over PA systems, film posters, and dining-hall taunts. Piper scatters Twisted Token hints and cage sightings. Charlotte is the rescue goal, not a co-op partner. Treat audio logs and apartment flashbacks as optional lore — they never replace Tickets or a working gun.
Once the Hotel loop feels automatic, jump to the dedicated Hotel walkthrough for room-level notes, or keep reading for Ticket and weapon priorities.
Tickets are the main currency. You earn them from enemies, food/ammo crates, and especially environmental smashables — the Hotel is deliberately loud about breakables so beginners learn to loot rooms before leaving.
| Spend | Why it matters early | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Damage on your main gun | Boss and elite mascots punish pea-shooter DPS | Buy first |
| Ammo capacity | Stops mid-fight reloads when Huggee packs spawn | Buy second |
| Reload speed | Helps tommy-gun / shotgun users under pressure | Buy third |
| Special attack | Bullet-time style perks shine mid-climb, not minute one | After a reliable base |
| Hoarding to 100 / 2000 | Achievement bait — fine if combat already feels safe | Optional side goal |
If a vendor says you are "too poor," leave, clear the next two rooms of props, and return. Impulse-buying every cosmetic or fringe toy before you have a damage-upgraded Dart-Throwin' Tommy Gun or Fartin' Shotgun is the classic first-hour trap.
Mentally bank "combat spend" vs "toy spend." Combat spend keeps you alive through Hotel and Waterpark. Toy spend (Harpoon, Fairy Wings, boots, jet pack) opens secrets and alternate geometry — valuable, but secondary until your primary weapon has at least one damage tier. Full priority tables live on weapon upgrades and the soft ticket planner.
Weapons matter more than currency theory — next section is the arsenal order that actually sticks.
The Steam arsenal is toy-themed on purpose: Whack-a-Mole Mallet, Rubber-Band Pistol, Dart-Throwin' Tommy Gun, Fartin' Shotgun, Bubblegum-Spittin' Chain-Gun, Sniper Slingshot, Skull-Poppin' Ray Gun, and more. Beginners do not need every gun in Hotel.

| Weapon | Role for beginners | When to invest |
|---|---|---|
| Whack-a-Mole Mallet | Melee finisher / ammo saver | Keep equipped; upgrade lightly |
| Rubber-Band Pistol | Safe opener at mid range | Stopgap until tommy/shotgun |
| Dart-Throwin' Tommy Gun | Workhorse automatic; special can slow fights | Primary Ticket sink |
| Fartin' Shotgun | Close rooms and choke points | Co-primary for Hotel halls |
| Chain-Gun / Slingshot / Ray Gun | Later DPS and precision | Waterpark+ unless dropped early |
Carry a mid-range automatic and a close-range shotgun (or upgraded pistol) so you can answer both hallway chases and doorway ambushes. Mallet swings save ammo on staggered mascots — do not ignore melee just because guns feel flashier.
A tommy gun with damage + ammo beats owning five unupgraded toys. The weapons list covers naming and roles; come back here only when you are choosing the first three Ticket purchases of a fresh save.
Enemies are corrupted fairy-tale mascots under Mr Twister. Known early faces include Huggee Bear, Mr Quackers, Ticklin Tommy, Smiley the Telephone, Jerry Jiraffe. They drop Tickets, snacks, and ammo — so aggressive clears pay for themselves if you keep moving.

| Threat | Beginner read | Response |
|---|---|---|
| Huggee Bear | Melee chaser with huge teddy head | Slide past, shoot while strafing, never back into a corner |
| Mr Quackers | Duck mascot with shotgun pressure | Break LOS, punish reloads, avoid open atriums |
| Smiley / Telephone | Twisted prop enemy | Clear with mid-range; listen for audio tells |
| Jerry Jiraffe | Long-frame gun mascot | Use cover pillars; do not duel in long corridors unupgraded |
| Ticklin' Tommy | Clown / heavy fire pressure | Treat as elite — save specials and snacks |
Slide, dash toys (when you have them), and vertical toys beat standing ADS. Twisted Snacks (popcorn, soda, carnival food) are your heal chain — pick them up the moment a room is safe, not after the next ambush starts.
Each level ends with a boss that tests your current upgrades and toys. If Hotel feels like a wall, you are probably under-spent on damage or over-spent on secrets. Full patterns sit on bosses and enemies.
Secrets and toys are the other half of the beginner skill curve — next.
Official copy promises bizarre toys for jumping, dashing, and grappling. Achievement-gated names include Harpoon, Fairy Wings, Bouncy Boots, and Twisted Jet Pack. Twisted Tokens open special side rewards. Steam also advertises 20+ secrets.
If a room looks too empty, check once with your current toys. If a door is X-marked for reconstruction, leave it — Piper and Twister both telegraph that some areas reopen after you climb higher or start Adventure Plus. Chasing every taped path on hour one is how beginners burn health and Tickets.
Harpoon grapples blue wall targets into otherwise unreachable ledges. Fairy Wings and boots change jump/dash profiles for secret safari routes. Grab them when the level hands them to you, but do not reroute an entire Hotel clear to force a toy you have not found yet. Deep lists: toys, secrets, collectibles.
Close the beginner chapter by killing the mistakes that create soft walls.
Scan this table mid-session. Almost every early wipe is a process error, not a story lock.
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Ignoring smashables | Break props every room — Tickets fund upgrades |
| Buying toys before damage | One damage tier on your primary first |
| Standing still vs Huggee | Slide + strafe; heal only in cover |
| Force-opening X doors | Note them for Adventure Plus / later return |
| Skipping snacks on the floor | Heal immediately after a clear |
| Carrying only one range band | Pair automatic + shotgun/pistol |
| 100% before Waterpark | Forward clear first; secrets on backtrack |
| Skipping Piper dialogue | He flags Charlotte route beats |
| Saving Tickets forever | Underleveled bosses hurt more than empty pockets |
| Ignoring difficulty options | Lower difficulty if the FPS loop is new to you |
